Welcome to the Official CWU Wrestling Page!

Welcome to the Official site of Central Washington Wrestling. We created this website to inform fans, parents, and alumni about CWU Wrestling. The team competes in the National College Wrestling Association (NCWA), which currently has 164 teams and is growing every year. To get everyone up to date on how the season went, here is a little overview.
The club is run by students for students, therefore funding comes from  our club dues which this season was $200 per person as well as fundraising. Due to increased travel expenses, dues will be raised next year. The Student and Activities Committee helped with funding forour trip to regionals and nationals. We are in the process of fundraising for a new mat which the university has agreed to help cover some of the cost if we can fundraise a majority. Sanitation has been addressed as a serious issue by the school. The mats are considered unsanitary and unable to be refurbished. The university has expressed interest in letting us put on a youth wrestling tournament as well as a summer camp. In addition, we are looking to branch out to CWU alumni and fans to help support Central wrestling next season and in the future.
Central Wrestling was coached this season by Club President Chris Chambers, but he is moving on and will not be able to coach. Next year the team is bringing in former CWU head wrestling Coach Eric Idler.
This season we hosted two home duals, and 2 away duals. This season we dueled with EWU, Montana Western, BYU Idaho, Evergreen State College, YVCC and Pacific with a dual record of 5-3. Our anticipation for next season is to increase the number of duels that we have with hopes of adding, Highline CC, and Simon Frasier to our schedule. In addition to the duel schedule the team wrestled in the Pacific Open Boxer Open, The Oregon Collegiate Open and the Mike Clock Open.
In post season this year, the guys team sent six people to regional’s located at San Jose State University, placing five of them. Sophomores Adam Raemer, Kevin Madson, and Junior Steven Alfi all placed 3rd. Newcomer David Kuich, and Senior Kyle Moore took 4th. As a team we took 3rd place behind only Cal Baptist and Simon Frasier. At nationals in Daytona Beach Florida, the men’s team sent Alfi, Kuich, Madson, and Moore. The team placed 33rd in the Nation out of the field of 79 teams and 7th overall in Division II. Although Kuich was a wildcard bid in the tournament he boasted the best record among the men's team going 4-2, falling just one match short of All-American status. The women’s team sent two participants with Junior Christina Ordonez winning a National Title making her the first women’s champ in CWU history. Senior wrestler, Cady Chambers took 3rd becoming a 4-time NCWA All American.
The team looks to build off of its recent success and has some lofty goals for next season with hopes of being invited to participate in the National Duals. With no wrestlers graduating after this season the team brings back 5 national qualifiers. Hoping to build off of the 7th place finish from this season, the team's goal is to send at least 10 to nationals and to place in the Top 3 in DII.
